What is the SWALS project?

The integration of students without a language section (SWALS) into the Scuola per l’Europa is a task that poses a number of challenges and opportunities for all those involved. First of all because of the multi-linguistic and multi-cultural background of the students. The SWALS pupils are those whose dominant language is an official language of an EU member state but for which no language section exists in their school. In the case of the Scuola per l’Europa of Parma that means Dutch, German, Portuguese, Spanish and, for the first time on our school, Greek. In our school the SWALS project is also open to the German L2 students as an opportunity for these students to live and practice their second language in an authentic context. In this project the students will be able to live their own cultural identity, sharing it with others students that face many of the same issues (live in a foreign country, classes in a foreign language,…) that they do.
